Praying for our Families
Gen. 25:21 - "And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren."
It was touching to read about Isaac's tender concern for his wife as he brought her before God in prayer. As a husband, I need to be reminded that it's my privilege and responsibility to care for my wife even by taking her concerns before the throne of God.
Perhaps Isaac's example should influence how I understand the kind of prayer a husband might offer in 1 Pet. 3:7. As the head of my family, if I live in a compassionate and understanding way with those in my charge it will aid me as I approach the One in authority over me. However, if I ignore the needs of my wife and children and live with them in a harsh and inconsiderate way, why should I expect the One over me to respond to me with favor?
What we see in Gen. 25 is that Rebekah's concern became Isaac's concern. And as Isaac compassionately brought the cares of his wife before God in prayer, God was gracious and answered his prayer with favor. May we resolve to live with our families in an understanding way so that we may pray for them accurately and effectively as we bring their cares before God!
