Right Where God Wants Me
Ps. 148:5-6 - "Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away (transgress)."
In Psalm 148 the psalmist repeatedly calls for people to praise God, giving them multiple reasons why He is worthy of such praise. In the first half of the Psalm the heavenly creation is called on to praise God because He spoke them into existence, put them right where they were meant to be, and they would never violate His command.
At the end of the Psalm (v. 14), Israel is given a special cause for praising God; their nearness to him (Deut. 4:7)! Just like the sun, moon and stars had a specific place God wanted them, the place where God wanted Israel was by His side. However, unlike the inanimate objects in the sky Israel had to decide whether they would remain where God meant for them to be, or whether they would violate His command and stray from His presence.
If Israel of the OT had reason to praise God because of His special relationship with him, then Christians have even more reason! We have received Christ (God in the flesh), we have been brought near by his blood, we have been made a special people for his own possession (1 Pet. 2:9-10)!
As you consider your relationship with God, are you really right where God wants you to be? Because where he wants you is next to him.
